The Teddy Bear is a unique designer breed in that its parents can be a mix of the Shih Tzu and the Poodle (Shih Poo), the Bichon Frise and the Toy Poodle (Poochon), or the Bichon Frise and the Shih Tzu (Zuchon). This multi-generational crossbreed is both well-mannered and friendly, not to mention adorable!
Their temperament depends largely on their parent combination, but overall Teddy Bears are very affectionate and playful. Each parent breed is intelligent as well, which makes Teddy Bears very responsive to training. Although, they may inherit a stubborn streak from one or more of their parents, making them difficult to housebreak. Lots of praise and consistency will do the trick to show them the way. They’re also prone to separation anxiety and should not be left alone for long periods of time.
The Teddy Bear is not an overly active dog. They only require short walks and interactive playtime. While they do well indoors, fresh air is always preferred. These little dogs do well with all types of families and all types of homes. They even get along well with small children and other dogs. Of course, proper socialization from early on is essential to ensuring the Teddy Bear remains well-mannered around people and other pets as they mature.
