The Shih Poo is a popular designer crossbreed whose parents are the Shi Tzu and the Poodle. Poodles come in various sizes which often reflect the size of the cross’s offspring, however the typical Shih Poo is of miniature size. They are the perfect lapdog, and will be extremely affectionate and devoted to their owner.
The Shih Poo is classified as hypoallergenic as it’s fur is low-shedding. Both the Poodle and the Shih Tzu are loving and intelligent breeds, which guarantees these traits in the Shih Poo. These traits are also what makes the Shih Poo a good match for first time dog owners as they are highly trainable. Of course, both parent breeds also have a stubborn streak, but it’s nothing a new dog owner can’t overcome with a little positive reinforcement, patient, and the dog’s favorite treats.
These small talks are energetic and require a moderate amount of daily exercise. They do well with romps around the dog park, short walks, and interactive playtime with their owners. The Shih Poo is suitable for all types of homes, including apartments and families with children. However, they tend to become “yappy” if not trained and properly socialized, and small children should be supervised during playtime with these pups.
