The Lhasapoo is a designer crossbreed that also goes by the name Lhasadoodle. The parents of this crossbreed are the Tibetan Lhasa Apso and the Poodle. The Poodle parent of the Lhasapoo is most often a Miniature Poodle, but breeders will sometimes use a Toy Poodle, making the crossbred pup even smaller than it already is.
The Lhasapoo is a hypoallergenic breed that’s suitable for allergy sufferers, however, their coats will require daily brushing to prevent their hair from becoming matted. These dogs have been described as protective and eager to please, which they inherit from their Lhasa Apsos parent. This means that they will be skeptical of new people, and may even become aggressive and “yappy” if not introduced calmly and slowly. The same goes for other dogs and pets. While early socialization can tame their skepticism, they much more prefer to be the only pet in the house.
Lhasapoos are suitable for all types of homes and families, and form strong bonds with their owners. These dogs have a moderate amount of energy requiring at least an hour of daily exercise, including long walks and interactive playtime. Although they’re eager to please, they do have a stubborn streak which may make some training difficult. Positive reinforcement and patience go a long way with these pups. They’re also prone to separation anxiety, so they’re not suitable for someone who works long hours.
