The Huskimo is a relatively new crossbreed whose parents are the Siberian Husky and the American Eskimo. They are intelligent, powerful, family-oriented dogs with a strong pack mentality. Due to their thick, double coat, these dogs prefer chilly weather and may not do well in hot climates.
These intelligent dogs have an abundance of energy, and require an owner that has strong leadership skills. Having said that, they are not recommended for new, inexperienced dog owners. Daily walks and interactive play sessions are the minimum of their exercise requirements. They have a strong drive to run, so taking them off the leash too soon may be a bad idea. Without proper exercise, the Huskimo will become hyperactive and destructive. Huskimos can thrive in apartment settings as long as their exercise requirements are met.
Depending on which parent they take after, the Huskimo will either favor being indoors or outdoors more. They’re good with children of all ages, although small children should be monitored due to the dog’s size and energy levels. Training requires a firm and consistent hand. Failure to establish pack leadership will lead to a disobedient dog. They also require proper socialization from a young age to ensure that they don’t show aggression towards other dogs.
