The Cockapoo is a designer breed that has been around since the 50s, and they’re arguably the reason for the designer dog breed trend (Thanks to Lady and the Tramp!) The parents of this crossbreed are the Poodle and either the American or English Cocker Spaniel. Since the Poodle parent can be of toy, standard, or miniature size, the Cockapoo can be of those sizes as well.
Cockapoos are incredibly affectionate and accepting of everyone. They do well with singles, seniors, and families with children of all ages. These happy-go-lucky dogs have a unique zest for life, and are happy to cuddle up with their owners and run around with dogs large and small. They even get along with cats. They have the sweet, stable, and intelligent traits of both their parent dogs, making them an ideal match for first time dog owners.
Cockapoos of all sizes require moderate exercise daily, preferably trips to the dog park where they can run around with other dogs. If left untrained and alone for long periods of time, the Cockapoo can develop bad habits such as barking, digging, and jumping on counters. Training should begin as soon as they’re brought home.
