The Cavapoo, also referred to as the Cavadoodle is a fairly recent designer breed. It’s parents are the Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which resulted in a calmer and more intelligent version of the two. Depending on the size of its Poodle parent, the Cavapoo’s sizes range from toy, to miniature, to standard (small to medium). This breed inherits the best of its parents traits, and they make wonderful family pets.
The Cavapoo is highly adaptable, meaning it can live in apartments or average-sized homes with yards. However, the Cavapoo does best in a “pack setting,” meaning that it prefers to be a part of a family that will give it plenty of attention. Having said that, they don’t do well when left alone for long periods of time. They also tend to chew on everything in sight and become attached at the hip, which should be discouraged through obedience training early on.
Cavapoos are very outgoing, sociable dogs, as well as highly trainable. They’re eager to please, but require a firm but gentle hand as they can be sensitive. They’re also highly active, and require a minimum of one hour of exercise daily outside of training activities. Due to their energy levels, they should be supervised around young children and socialized properly at a young age.
